Membership
JAS membership is open to anyone, U.S. Forces Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) personnel, Japanese, and non-SOFA Americans from Iwakuni city and other Japanese towns and prefectures. JAS has a very diverse group of members, including active-duty U.S. military personnel and civilians, as well as families of Japanese employed on MCAS Iwakuni. We have Japanese members from the Japan Maritime Self Defense Forces, civil servants from the city, prefecture, and national government, employees from private companies, business owners, retirees, homemakers, students, and children.

Member's Benefits
The annual membership fee gives our members and their families access to a variety of bilateral activities, special events (like our annual Culture Festival, Halloween Carnival, Speech Contest, and Holiday Party), tours, and cultural events for little or no added cost. Annual membership fees, along with fundraising and donations finance JAS Iwakuni’s activities, events, and programs. As of January 2019, JAS Iwakuni has about 400 Japanese and 200 American/SOFA members, including family members.The monthly JAS Newsletter will be posted on the JAS website and Facebook, and sent by Email to the members who request us to do so.The postal mail delivery of the newsletter is also available only for those who pay an additional handling charge of $10 or 1,000 yen
